I was contacted by the Arctic Terns to construct a unique logo for the eclectic group of 4 band members.
Briefed with a geometric preference and the following 3 words to describe the band - Eclectic, Contrasting & Balance.
This is what we decided on:
Logo Summary and Process
I started with an outline of the Arctic Tern in flight noticing details such as:
the Contrasting black head
streamline body, and
triangular shape of the wings.
The band’s preferred geometric style was added along with the second tern to create a balanced logo shape.
As the birds are the species that have the longest migration and the bassist is stuck overseas (due to COVID-19), an essence of connection and distance is represented in the line through the name.
The line is similar to a sun dial showing North and South - representing the migration, and the connection of letters representing the band’s connection despite the distance.
The font has been chosen due to its legibility, simplicity and balance.
